Organized by International Strategic Technology Alliance (ISTA) and hosted by Northwestern Polytechnical University (NPU), ISTA Advanced Technology Transfer Workshop: Venture from University Technology Commercialization was held on 11 October 2018 in Xi'an.

Spin-off provides an important pathway to translates the academic-generated knowledge into industry-adopted technology through both intellectual property transfer and the talent development. However, even the most reputable institutions find turning researchers into successful entrepreneurs a formidable task. In this workshop, the Lean Launchpad methodology was introduced to the participants by Prof. CHEN Dongmin of Peking University, a academic-turned-entrepreneur and a seasoned technology transfer professional himself. The participants worked in groups to go through the key elements and the business logics in their cases and developed a hypothetical business model to commercialize a university-developed technology.

More than 30 practitioners from 15 ISTA member universities and 3 partner universities participated in this workshop.
